Clare O'Leary

Level 2 - Head Coach

Originally trained in basketball, I only started playing netball at the age of 13 when a new PE teacher (who happened to be an England netball player!) arrived at my school. From that moment on I never looked back!

Representing U14, U16 and U18 East Essex before moving to The University of Birmingham and representing them in their first team. I had the opportunity to trial for both England netball and the British Universities Netball team but unfortunately suffered a serious injury that took me out of the game for over 1 year.

After recovering, I represented Gloucester (with Tracey Neville!) at Senior county level whilst completing my final year at University and returning to Essex.

Still loving netball but having to juggle full time work, I represented Essex Met at Senior county level for 4 years whilst playing my club netball for Cambell Netball Club – mixing with the ‘greats’ from this era! Having to finally retire from playing (well almost!) I decided to pass on my passion for the sport through coaching.

Having always played and coached in London, a random Google search brought me to Marine Netball club and I can’t believe how lucky I was!

After trying many sports at school, I knew that netball was my passion. I started playing in Year 4 and began playing when Marine Netball Club was set up. I was lucky enough to be selected for East Essex and enjoyed playing for my County.

In 2018 I qualified as a Level 1 UKCC Netball Coach and in 2021 qualified as a UKCC Level 2 Coach. I am also a qualified umpire.

Marine Netball Club Hannah Nash Level 1 Coach

Hannah Nash

Level 1 Lead Coach, Yr 10, Yr 11

I have been coaching netball for several years. I am head of PE at Beaulieu Park school in Chelmsford and have 9 years’ experience in teaching secondary PE. Within my role at school I have taught many different year groups netball, from year 7 to A-level.

I have represented the Hertfordshire county whilst at school, played at University level and finally at regional level when previously living in Hertfordshire. I have a passion for female sport and work hard to allow all females equal opportunity.

I am excited to train and coach young women who work hard, apply themselves to all opportunities and encourage others along the way.

Laura Girling

Level 1 & Club Secretary

I am immensely proud to have been one of the founding members of Marine NC back in 2014. Both my daughter's have played and continue to play at Marine, I absolutely love watching them play and particularly enjoy seeing the friends they make and the camaraderie established from playing netball.

I am the club secretary and a UKCC Level 1 coach which keeps me pretty busy.

Marine Netball Club Ally Marshall Level 1 Coach

Allison Marshall

Level 1 & Club Treasurer

I will admit to hating netball when I was in school, and regularly “hid” behind the bike sheds!! It wasn’t until my daughter started to play that I actually started to enjoy it. Having watched her play about four times a week and learning so much about netball I decided to become a coach rather than just watch!

I gained my Level 1 in 2016 having been one of the founder members of Marines! I am also Club Treasurer and Kit Manager and I so enjoy watching all our members play and learn.

Marine Netball Club Allison Hamer Level 1 Coach

Allison Hamer

Level 1 & Chairperson

I started playing netball at the age of 7 and never looked back, as it’s always been my passion!

I retired from playing in 2004 due to injury and as my daughters grew up I decided to push them in the netball direction. Watching them on the sideline made me decide to use my skills as a player to become a coach. I became a Level 1 coach in 2016 and have coached at Marine Netball Club ever since.

I have been a qualified netball coach for 5 years at Marine Netball Club. I have played netball since primary school until I was about 19 and like many others, regained my love for it 13 years ago. I am predominantly a GA but also play defence and play in 4 different leagues across Essex.

I love to share my passion for the game with others which is why I went into coaching. I became the loud one from behind the fence to the loud one courtside and many people will probably hear me shouting across a netball court before they see me!

For many years I have spent the majority of my spare time on a netball court - If I'm not playing, I'm coaching and if I'm not coaching, I'm umpiring! I'm a qualified Level 1 Coach and have been at Marine NC since it started back in 2014.

I'm also the competitive captain for our Senior team in Chelmsford Netball League.

I play as a goal attack, goal shooter and enjoy playing wing attack too. I was also part of the Surrey Storm East Hub for two years as part of the England Netball pathway. I am an umpire and have recently qualified as a UKCC Level 1 coach, I hope that I can bring my experience as a player to the young players at Marine NC.

I absolutely love netball and decided that I would start coaching as soon as I was old enough. I passed my level 1 coaching qualification in 2021 and have been coaching ever since at Marine- the club where it all started for me.

My girls have been part of the Marine family since 2016. I love the club so much I thought that I would join them.

I have seen how much my girls confidence has grown over the years ,especially with the help and support of the wonderful coaching team at Marine, so I thought I would try and give something back.

I don’t play any more but you can always find me on the side line give words of support and encouragement. #hereifyouneed.

Marine Netball Club Sarah Dawe Level 1 Coach

Sarah Dawe

I have been a member of Marine since I was thirteen. I started here as a player, moving on to be a volunteer about three years ago, and more recently, I have achieved my Level 1 coaching qualification.

I am a defender, playing primarily at Goal Keeper and Wing Defence, and aim to bring more specialised defensive coaching to our Marine players.

As I head off to university this year, I hope, someday to return with wider experience and tactics to share with the Marine family.

Marine Netball Club Clare O 'Leary Level 2 Head Coach

Denyse Croucher

Safeguarding Officer

Hi, I am Denyse Croucher and am very pleased to be Club Safeguarding Officer for Marine Netball Club. I worked in an Infant’s School for 13 years alongside my position at Marine and am passionate, along with the whole of Marine Netball Club that the children’s wellbeing and happiness is of paramount importance.

Each child, regardless of their background or ability has a right to enjoy and progress safely to reach their full potential.

Now more than ever sport is an important aspect of any child's life to enhance their fitness, physical and mental wellbeing. It is an important escape from any stress life may bring along.

My daughter played for Marine from when is first launched up until her year 11. You might well see me around courts at Thurrock on a Sunday and at some training evenings.

Whilst I hope that you do not need to contact me, other than socially of course, should you feel that you need to speak to me with any worries or concerns you can reach me either through the Marine website, on my email address or on my mobile.
